ODTU YRM

METU YRM

In this project, plans were made in line with the development of the Particle Radiation Tests Creation Laboratory Project National Radiation Monitor (YRM) Competence Model (YM). With YRM, radiation measurement in Low Earth Orbit (LEO) will be done. With the radiation monitor to be developed, the flux of electrons in the energy range of 100 keV to 7 MeV and the flux of protons in the energy range of 2 MeV to 200 MeV will be detected. The radiation monitor is designed as a payload to be attached to the IMECE satellite for 5 years in solar synchronous orbit. The data measured by the sensors will be transmitted to the satellite via CAN or MIL-STD 1553 buses and data will be received from the satellite as a result of satellite communication.

The National Radiation Monitor Development Project started in March 2017 with the support of the Defense Industry Directorate and the Strategy and Budget Directorate.

In the system; An electron telescope to measure particles in 8 equal logarithmic sampling intervals at 0.1 MeV and 7 MeV energy levels, protons with 8 logarithmic sampling intervals at energy levels in the 2-200 MeV range, and 8 logarithmic at Linear Energy Transfer (LET) levels in the DSB MeV⋅cm2 / mg range. a proton / heavy ion telescope to measure heavy ions with sampling intervals, an ASIC system used to perform amplifiers and comparisons in preprocessing electronics, an FPGA board for the designer to program as desired, an ADC electronics to convert analog value to digital value, clock electronics to generate clock information, RAM required for the processor to work, memory electronics where the processor's program is kept and radiation data is stored, temperature meters used to create status information on the YRM by measuring temperature on electronic cards, CAN interface circuits as converters to do, MIL-SDT-1553 interface circuits as transceiver communication device to make signal conversion, RS422 interface circuits as receiver and transmitter integration, power circuits for the buckling voltages required by the pre-processing electronics of electron and proton / heavy-ion detectors and in the satellite communication system, there are other external world interface circuits to enable the equipment to be interconnected.
